Are there examples owning the “WP” on receiver and barrel As well as the Oval P to the barrel which have an R&R note? If that is so, do they take place pre-1905 or write-up-1905 or the two?
I picked up on an older matter/submit where others which have mentioned that a barrel acquiring the “Oval P” might have been fitted by Winchester:
Winchester (dependant on PR dates) initially began using the superposed “WP” Winchester Definitive proof mark in May 1905, and ongoing to use it on most models from that point on. In my surveys, I have verified that date for the Model 1885, Product 1894, and Product 1897, And that i believe that Michael has confirmed precisely the same over the Product 1892. Winchester right from the start marked both of those the barrel plus the receiver.

While there are already some plausible theories offered in this article and elsewhere we may perhaps never ever know The solution to the first concern about the receiver with both equally marks proven inside a prior article. Based on other replacement barrels I've found which contain the two the WP and mail purchase P and a statement from the former Winchester employee that indicated they DID use some mail get parts when rebarreling rifles returned for support I think that it is a substitute receiver which was set up and proofed at Winchester as well as the mail buy evidence was also added to simply reveal it wasn't the first receiver.
